Q: How much weight can a dumpster hold?

Your dumpster rental comes with a weight allowance, or an amount of weight that is included at no extra charge. This amount is sufficient for most jobs. If you have excess weight, you will be charged by the prorated ton. In Virginia, the Department of Transportation (DOT) limit for a dumpster is 10 tons. Our smaller trucks can lift 6 to 8 tons, and our larger trucks can lift 20 tons. You are responsible for making sure your dumpster does not exceed the limits that the truck can carry. If you exceed the DOT limit you may be charged an Extreme Weight fee in addition to the regular tonnage costs.

Q: How much does it cost to swap out a dumpster I have for an empty one?

Q: Will the dumpster do any damage to my property?

Dumpsters are heavy, and the process of placing them involves rolling them off of the back of a large truck. They can cause significant damage to a lawn, and can also leave superficial marks on asphalt. We always recommend placing your dumpster on pavement as opposed to grass. If you are concerned with the asphalt on your driveway or in your lot, you are encouraged to purchase a 4' by 8' 3/4" thick board at Home Depot or your local retailer, and to cut it into quarters. This can be left where the dumpster is to be placed and the driver will arrange it so the dumpster is dropped onto the boards which will prevent any damage to your driveway.

Q: Can I put mixed material with concrete in a regular dumpster, or am I required to only put concrete in a concrete dumpster?

There is a certain amount of mesh wiring that is used to reinforce concrete, and this is permitted in a concrete dumpster. Likewise, a certain amount of concrete can be put in a regular roll off dumpster, however you should always be mindful of the weight, as concrete is heavy and ordinary roll offs have weight limitations.

A 30 yard dumpster, which is one of our larger and more popular sized dumpsters can be backed easily into a single car driveway. All dumpsters are eight feet wide, some are longer however, and if you have a very short driveway, you should be aware that the dumpster may stick out into the street.
